Guardian Home Program
Have you ever dreamed of owning a Maine Coon but felt it was out of reach? At Sweet Giants Maine Coon Cattery, we created our Guardian Home Program to make it possible for loving families to welcome one of our beautiful cats into their homes while becoming part of our
breeding program in a very special way.
We are excited to open the Guardian Home Program at Sweet Giants Maine Coon Cattery. This program allows us to expand our breeding lines and introduce new blood while keeping our cats living as true family pets. The Guardian Program helps us give every cat the home life they deserve while continuing to grow responsibly.
Our philosophy is simple. Cats should be beloved companions first and breeding cats second. We want them to sleep on the sofa, follow you around the house, enjoy TV time, and maybe sneak a treat or two from the kitchen.
As a guardian, you would provide a permanent, loving home for one of our breeding cats. This may be a kitten we produced or a kitten we purchased to bring new lines into our cattery. When the cat retires from our program, full ownership transfers to you forever. You will receive a top quality Maine Coon chosen specifically for our program.
Here is what we are looking for in a Guardian Home:
-
You must live in the Frisco Texas area, within a maximum distance of about forty five minutes from our location
-
No other cats can be in the home to prevent cross contamination or behavioral issues.
-
You must not be planning to move within the next five years.
-
You must pay for monthly pet health insurance for the cat.
-
You must sign a guardian contract that explains all responsibilities clearly.
-
For females, we prefer homes without very young children, since temporary separation during birthing and kitten raising can be emotionally difficult for small children.
-
This program is not a mentorship and is not for people interested in starting their own cattery.
-
You must be able to bring the cat to us and pick up the cat with a notice of twenty four to thirty six hours.
-
The cat must be an indoor only pet. Screened patios and secure windows are fine.
-
A home visit and personal references are required.
-
You will cover routine veterinary care such as exams and vaccines. We cover all costs related to breeding, including health testing and any breeding specific veterinary care.
-
You must feed the diet we recommend to keep the cat in top condition.
-
You must communicate with us at least once a month and send updated pictures so we can monitor the cat’s health and development.
The cost of a kitten in the Guardian Home Program is very low. You will only cover vaccines and basic expenses for the first three months of life, which is around seven hundred.
We look forward to meeting you and seeing if you might be the right match for one of our Sweet Giants.
Once your application is approved, we will show you the kittens we currently have available for the Guardian Home Program and help you choose the best match for your home.
