PERSONALITY AND MEDICAL RECORDS:
If you follow us on TikTok, you’ve likely seen Ustin cuddling, dressing up in cute outfits, and sleeping peacefully in bed. He’s a truly affectionate and loving cat who forms strong bonds with his humans. However, Ustin isn’t a cat for just anyone — and we want to be completely transparent about what he needs.
Ustin was imported from Ukraine at 18 months old. He was well-treated and cared for by his breeder, but sadly, he was raised during a time of extreme instability. The area where he lived was heavily bombed, and his environment was loud and frightening. As a result, Ustin is sensitive to noise and startles easily.
Because of the difficult conditions, his breeder could not provide litter, and Ustin was raised using an empty litter box. While his caretaker did the best they could under unimaginable circumstances, this lack of proper litter training during kittenhood had a lasting impact.
Litter Box Challenges
Ustin still has issues with consistent litter box use. He will avoid the box if:
-
There are other cats around (especially dominant ones)
-
The box is even slightly dirty
-
He feels stressed, anxious, or overstimulated
While he has made progress, this will likely remain a long-term behavioral challenge. He needs someone willing to work with him, not someone expecting perfection.
If you’re not prepared for EVERY DAY accidents and the commitment that comes with helping a cat feel safe and secure, Ustin is not the right cat for you. He deserves stability, not a home that will give up on him when things get tough.
What He Needs in a Home:
-
No other cats or dogs
-
A quiet, calm environment
-
A family or individual with patience and understanding
-
Someone willing to keep his litter box impeccably clean
-
A commitment to provide long-term stability and unconditional love
Other Considerations:
-
When stressed, Ustin may scratch himself excessively, to the point of causing minor bleeding. This is not a medical condition, but a stress reaction. We manage it with a vet-approved topical spray as needed, and he always heals quickly.
-
After his neutering, he lost some of his mane due to the cone rubbing against his fur. We shaved a small area to help him heal, and while the fur is growing back, it’s currently a bit shorter BUTit will grow back in a few more months.
